Removing the Profit Motive

November 24, 2020 | 12:00-1:30 PM

We want greater accountability towards residents, improved working conditions for workers to provide care, and an increase in public transparency in Long-Term Care. Most importantly, we want public funding for care to go directly to providing care and not to subsidize profits. To do this we need a provincial plan to eliminate the profit motive from Long-Term Care and Seniors Care. See our Facebook Event page for more details and latest updates.

Speakers include:

Pat Armstrong, Distinguished Research Professor of Sociology at York University, Toronto

Lou Black, Director of Research and Policy, Hospital Employees Union

Margaret McGregor, Family physician and clinical associate professor at the UBC Department of Family Practice

Addressing the Gaps

December 1, 2020 | 12:00-1:30 PM

The elements of the seniors care system should fit together in a seamless continuum of support that maintains or improves the health of seniors. Home Support, Assisted Living and Long-Term Care are interdependent elements of seniors care. Not only do they impact where seniors live and the degree of health care provision they have access to, but they also share and draw from the same labour force. However, operators and governments have often played these sectors against each other. While systemically addressing issues in Long Term Care, we also need to address the gaps and growing issues in home care, home support and assisted living. See our Facebook Event page for more details and latest updates.

Speakers include:

Sheila Pither, President, COSCO

Scott DeLong, VP Community Health, BCGEU

Anita Dixon, LPN Association
