BC FORUM President Gerry Edwards on HST ballot

July 7, 2011 -- Mail ballots for the province-wide referendum on the HST are now being distributed again.

If you do not receive your ballot, there is a very narrow window to request one.  If you have not received your ballot by the end of Wednesday, July 6, 2011, you should call Elections BC at 1-800-661-8683 (toll-free) to register and request an HST Referendum Voting Package. The deadline to request an HST Referendum Voting Package is midnight (local time) Friday, July 8, 2011.

Your ballot must be mailed by July 22.

BC FORUM’s analysis shows that the HST is the largest tax shift in B.C. history. Because it covers so many items that were previously tax free, it takes billions of dollars from ordinary families. Even at the lower rate the BC Liberals have promised to introduce two years from now, the HST will cost people like you and me $1.3 billion more. It is a massive and unfair tax giveaway to corporations.

If you believe in tax fairness and shared responsibility for individual and corporate citizens, I urge you to vote “Yes” to scrap the HST.

In solidarity,

Gerry Edwards

President, BC FORUM
