Tune in as CURC members from across the country gather in Ottawa from October 22nd to the 25th to discuss issues that are important to you. The convention, with the theme Retirees: building for the future, will kick off Tuesday evening, October 22nd, with presentations by Ed Broadbent, chair of the Broadbent Institute and Hassan Yussuff, secretary-treasurer with the Canadian Labour Congress If you are in Ottawa on the 22nd, drop by the National Hotel and Suites at 361 Queen Street and catch the presentations live between 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. If you are somewhere else fire up your computer and join our webcast. It will be broadcast in English and French. You will also be able to submit in person or over the internet questions for the presenters in either language. Starting the morning of the 23rd delegates will begin discussing and debating retiree matters, like those you can read about in our Rabble column. As you can expect, pensions will be high on the agenda. It is an especially important topic right now considering the country's finance ministers will consider proposals to expand the Canada Pension Plan (CPP/QPP) when they meet in December. CURC supports the CLC proposals for retirement Security for all which also calls for improvements to OAS and GIS. Find out more through our website.. There will be presentations and resolutions dealing with a variety of matters that are of concern to retirees, such as health care, home care, pharmacare, housing, taxation and the environment, to name a few. In tune with the CLC's Together Fairness Works campaign, it's only fair that today's retirees help built a future for our kids and grandkids, the retirees of tomorrow, based on principles of fairness for all. Delegates will get a change to share their thoughts with politicians during the reception for Members of Parliament on the evening of October 23rd between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm at the National Hotel and Suites.
