What happened? • The BC government recently announced it will bring into force the Medicare Protection Amendment Act (Bill 92) in order to protect patients from unlawful private fees. • Prior to that, the government also announced a comprehensive strategy and ongoing funding to reduce wait times in surgeries and diagnostic imaging. • And just this week, the court case launched by Brian Day, the for-profit clinic CEO, resumed--if he wins, it could undermine the foundations of Canadian public health care. To make sense of all these recent events, the BC Health Coalition is holding a teach-in to help explain what this all means for our public health system and why it matters.·Will you join us? Teach-ins were used as a popular education tool and a form of non-violent protest by organizers in the 1960s in the context of the Vietnam·War to educate and activate people around the civil rights and anti-war movements. Teach-ins are not only educational but also aim to agitate and promote action. About Colleen Fuller Colleen Fuller·is a·health policy analyst·and a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the·REACH Community Health Centre·in East Vancouver. She has been an advocate for publicly-funded and -provided health and social services and has a long history of campaigning against privatization. Colleen is also a co-founder of·PharmaWatch Canada·which works for safe, effective and affordable medicines in Canada. This event is taking place on the unceded·lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tseil-Waututh peoples. |
