S o m e h i g h l i g h t s o f t h e 2 0 1 8 r e p o r t i n c l u d e : • T h e n u m b e r o f s e n i o r s u s i n g property tax deferral in 2017/18 has risen 53% s i n c e 2 0 1 3 / 1 4 , w i t h a 2 1 % i n c r e a s e i n t h e l a s t y e a r a l o n e . I n 2 0 1 7 / 1 8 , t h e r e w e r e a t o t a l o f 57,305 seniors deferring their property taxes, o f w h i c h 1 3 , 1 7 9 w e r e n e w u s e r s o f t h e p r o g r a m . T o t a l d e f e r r a l s i n 2 0 1 7 / 1 8 a r e $208,868,338. • T h e r e n t s u b s i d i e s t h r o u g h t h e S h e l t e r A i d f o r E l d e r l y R e n t e r s ( S A F E R ) p r o g r a m c o n t i n u e t o g r o w b e y o n d t h e r a t e o f t h e t a r g e t p o p u l a t i o n . T h e r e w a s a 7% increase i n t h e n u m b e r o f S A F E R r e c i p i e n t s w i t h 22,956 seniors receiving the supplement a n d a 34% increase i n t h e a g g r e g a t e a m o u n t p a i d f o r a t o t a l o f $71 million i n S A F E R s u b s i d i e s p a i d . • T h e n u m b e r o f s e n i o r s r e c e i v i n g h o m e s u p p o r t s e r v i c e decreased by 1.4% d e s p i t e a 4 % i n c r e a s e i n t h e p o p u l a t i o n o v e r a g e 6 5 a n d a 5% increase in the population over 85. F o r t h o s e w h o d i d r e c e i v e s e r v i c e , m o r e h o u r s w e r e d e l i v e r e d a s t h e t o t a l n u m b e r o f h o u r s d e l i v e r e d r e m a i n e d a b o u t t h e s a m e ( l e s s t h a n 1 % i n c r e a s e ) r e s u l t i n g i n a 2 % i n c r e a s e i n t h e a v e r a g e h o u r s o f c a r e . • |
