BC FORUM News - From The Advocate, Summer, 2019 Home adaptation grants for safe and independent living Advocate page 13 Effective April 1, the maximum lifetime grant under the Home Adaptations for Independence program is $17,500 per household. The grant is available to British Columbians with limited income and assets. It is designed to support safe and independent living when a member of the household has a permanent disability or loss of ability. All adaptations must be permanent and fixed to the home. Examples include handrails, ramps, easy to reach work and storage areas in the kitchen, and walk-in showers. Applications are approved on a first come first served basis until the annual funding is exhausted. Approved applications are then wait listed.
